COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Some Columbus Government Center tower employees will be allowed to take off Wednesday, Jan. 3 due to issues with the towers' heating system.

City Manager Isaiah Hugley has authorized departments to allow some employees, excluding emergency and other essential personnel, to take off (at their department head's discretion) due to the unexpected failure of the heating system in the tower and east/west wings.

Normal hours of operations and all city services in these buildings will resume as normal on Thursday, Jan. 4.

See expected repair timeline below:

  • Expected overnight parts delivery Wednesday, January 3, 2018, around 10:00 a.m.
  • One to two hours repair time, providing everything goes well
  • After repairs will take approximately four hours to get the building heated/warm

City operations conducted outside of the Government Center tower and east/west wings and all other city buildings will run as normal on Wednesday.
