ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The City of Albany says its Downtown New Year's Eve Fireworks Celebration was so great, organizers plan to do it again next year.

Around 300 people attended the city's first-ever New Year's Eve celebration at Riverfront Park on Sunday.

An area DJ entertained the crowd until the fireworks show began, which started at midnight.

Albany's Downtown Business Development Manager Jacquelyn Teemer said the goal of the event was to bring more people downtown instead of them going elsewhere for New Year's Eve.

"We ended 2017 with a bang, literally. It was just a great event. A really family, friendly event," Teemer said.

According to Teemer, the Albany Police Department had around 50 officers patrolling the event to ensure everyone's safety.
