LEE CO., GA (WALB) - A law firm in Albany is getting into the Christmas spirit by surprising several local charities with donations.
Throughout the month, Watson and Spence has celebrated its 3rd annual 12 Days of Christmas Giving by giving away 12 $1,000 checks to local charities.
On Thursday afternoon, the law firm presented the Touchdown Club in Lee County with a $2,000 check, making it the 13th check they've given out.
Staff donated more than $38,000 to local charities in the past two years.
This year, checks were given to Girls Inc., Mission Change, and the Touchdown Club.
"This year we had a huge thing. Lee County, Georgia, state champions class 6-A football. Who would have ever thought that, well a few of us did, and we've worked really hard for this," said Louis Hatcher, a partner.
"Every little bit happens, you know, we've got 126 players, plus our managers, our trainers, we've got to buy rings for. It's going to be pretty costly but it's well deserved," said Lee Co. High School Football Coach Dean Fabrizio.
Hatcher matched his firm with an additional $1,000 bringing the check to two thousand dollars.
Coach Fabrizio explained the funds will be used to help buy the state championship rings for the players and coaching staff.
They're also asking the community to make donations to help buy the rings which will cost about $40,000.
