Decatur Co. crossbow wielding assailant sentenced to 40 years

DECATUR CO., GA (WALB) - A Decatur County man will spend the next 40 years in prison after investigators said he doused his wife in gasoline and threatened to shoot her with a crossbow.

David Robertson, 57, was convicted by a jury on charges of aggravated assault and terroristic threats.

Bainbridge public safety officers said Robertson poured gasoline on his wife.

The wife called 911 for help.

When officers arrived at his home on Lake Douglas road, they said Robertson pointed this crossbow at his wife's head.

When officers tried to arrest Robertson, they said he attempted to take one of their guns.

"You've got the defendant whose upset with the boyfriend or girlfriend whatever the situation may be and then law enforcement comes and it becomes tense very quick. We were fortunate in this case no one was killed and he will never have an opportunity to do this again" said Joe Mulholland, District Attorney.

Judge Kevin Chason sentenced Robertson to 40 years to serve in the state prison system.
