GBI investigating after Forest Park PD officers shot, suspect found dead

FOREST PARK, GA (CBS46) -

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating after two Forest Park Police officers were shot during an incident on Wednesday morning. 

CBS46 has learned a suspect is dead following the shooting. The suspect was identified as Jacob Bailey. 

According to Forest Park police, the officers responded to a reckless driving call. Bailey was on a motorcycle and officers pulled him over. As soon as the officers rounded the corner, Bailey opened fire, hitting both officers. 

Officer Demarkus Hutcherson suffered non-life-threatening injuries and Officer Tim Sterrett was rushed into surgery. Sterrett is at Grady Hospital and was last listed in critical condition. Major Chris Matson said both officers were three-year veterans of the force. 

The shooting occurred near Forest Park Middle School and the facility was placed on lockdown, but there was not any danger to students. 

Bailey was later found behind a house near the shooting scene dead from a gunshot wound. It is not known at this time if the wound was self-inflicted. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident.
