Lee Co. commissioners respond to Dougherty Co. opposition to hospital

LEE CO., GA (WALB) -

The Lee County Board of Commissioners sent an official response on Friday to the Dougherty County Board of Commission, declining a proposal to have a joint study on the proposed Lee County hospital.

The Lee County Medical Center is a proposed hospital that would be built at the site of the Grand Island Golf Course in Lee County.

On Wednesday, Dougherty County commissioners voted to send a letter to the state Department of Community Health, opposing the granting of a certificate of need for the proposed Lee County hospital.

Dougherty County commissioners also proposed to do a joint study on how the hospital would impact Southwest Georgia.

On Friday, the Lee County Board of Commission officially responded to Dougherty County commissioners proposal, declining Dougherty's request for a joint study.

Another study of the new hospital's community impact is not necessary - and frankly, the implication that our Commission has not done our due diligence is inappropriate.
