South GA leadership program welcomes new class

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

A regional marketing organization kicked off the second year of a program that's aim is to produce new leaders in South Georgia.

Locate South GeorgiaLEADS has a new class of more than 30 students from across the area.

The 2017-2018 program kicked off with a dinner at Southern Woods Plantation in Sylvester Thursday night.

The goal is to learn what makes South Georgia tick, like agriculture, politics, natural resources and industrial development, among other topics.

"We cover a swath of different businesses throughout South Georgia and the impact that they have, how important education is, and focus on workforce development as well," said Locate South Georgia Chairman Justin Strickland

The program lasts 8 months.

Graduates from last year's class are helping lead this year's program.

    The cleanup efforts after a second sewage spill for the Flint River in Downtown Albany are uncertain at this time.  Jacobs, the company responsible for the pumps said in a statement they hope to bring in a third party source to help access the damage.
