ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Georgia company with strong ties in Albany is contributing $124,000 to help rural hospitals in Georgia.

Draffin and Tucker announced Tuesday, as part of Georgia's new rural hospital tax credit program, the company is contributing $124,000 to all 49 eligible rural hospitals in the state.

Five small rural hospitals in Georgia have already closed in recent years, and with the changing landscape of healthcare more are struggling financially.

Senate Bill 180 encourages private contributions through a tax credit program.

"Draffin and Tucker is excited about the opportunity this could afford rural hospitals. We hope other individuals and organizations will also take advantage of this opportunity to support rural health care," said managing partner Jeff Wright.

Draffin and Tucker officials said they support the funding and participating in industry discussion of continued solutions for the future.
