We often hear people say we should do more for the people who put on their country's uniform to protect us. Sometimes, it's just lip service, but Georgia's senior senator has turned words into deeds.
Senator Johnny Isakson, who heads the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, has put forward six pieces of legislation to help vets, and four of them are now law, or are headed to the president.
We hear from vets all the time that the V.A. doesn't do enough, or is slow in acting.
Isakson's Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act will improve accountability at the V.A.
The Veterans Choice Program Improvement Act helps veterans get access to timely care in their own communities.
The Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act will help modernize the woefully outdated benefits claims appeals process at the V.A., and help veterans receive more timely decisions.
These are just some of the improvements our senior senator is pushing for our vets.
More needs to be done, but we salute Georgia Senator Johnny Isakson for taking up this important cause, and doing more for vets than just talk...
