ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Three Albany residents now have a little extra help for college.

The Christian Life Men of Valor presented three financial scholarships to rising college freshmen.

Christopher Morris, Reginald Jones, and Kevin Thomas received a little more than $1,700.

The young men applied for the scholarship in June based on GPA, community service, and parish membership at Christian Life Ministry Baptist Church here in Albany.

Anthony McMillan helped present the checks to the students.

"This gives me a chance as a leader up here in Christian life to actually mentor young men that are in our community to give them an opportunity to hear from someone that's already been there and done that," explained McMillan.

McMillan said the church has already begun fund raising for next year's scholarships.

He hopes to give out six scholarships next year on behalf of the Christian Life Men of Valor.
