DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - A mother is behind bars, accused of leaving her two young kids in the car for over an hour. But that's not the only crime that police said landed her in jail.
Dougherty County Police said the two kids found in the car are doing alright, and are now with their father.
But their mother is now facing multiple charges.
A patrol officer found the two kids, a 12-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, sleeping in the back of a parked car at the power dam a little after midnight.
The officer then found their mother, Nina Nicole Taylor, 32, 900 feet away from the car.
Taylor told police she was searching for a piece of jewelry that belonged to her boyfriend.
But Sergeant David McVey said she didn't have any light source with her. The officer also found a Meth pipe in the area in which she said she was looking.
"That area at night is known to be a heavy drug activity area, very dangerous," said Sgt. McVey. "No child should be left alone for that period of time. And she was well out of the range of them screaming or yelling."
Taylor is now charged with reckless conduct, possession of methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.
