ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Crews have begun a much-needed facelift on a historic building in downtown Albany.

Theatre Albany has received enough funds to renovate its building in the 500 block of Pine Avenue.

This week, crews are working to pressure wash, repair a handicap ramp and repair loose boards.

Theatre Albany does all its shows in the building it has occupied since 1964.

Board President Kelly Mullins said Thursday that funds from a recent boost in show attendance and local donations are making this happen.

"It has not had a lot of TLC in a long time, so the paint is peeling and the wood is rotten and we've had some major roof leaks and things like that, so its needed some repairs for a while."

Theatre Albany will open its next show in September.
