DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Dougherty County Police are awaiting toxicology and autopsy results to learn more about what exactly killed a woman on Moultrie Road last week.
Dougherty County Police are continuing to investigate after Alexis Whitted, 22, was killed on the 1300 block of Moultrie Road.
Police said around 4:30 Friday morning, Whitted went off the road and crashed into a culvert.
Police said she was able to get out of her car.
Investigators are still trying to figure out whether she died from injuries sustained in the accident, or if she died from being hit by a passing car.
"She left the roadway straight on, 500 feet, through the ditch, and then she hit that culvert, and that's what caused the damage to her vehicle," said DCP Sergeant David McVey. "There was no attempt to correct the vehicle. It was just straight on until it came to it's final point of rest."
Police are going through her telephone records to see if those provide any help.
Police are still asking for witnesses or anyone who knew where she was before the accident to call the department.
Their number is 229-430-6600.
