An inmate of the Colquitt County jail was found dead in his cell overnight, Monday.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday that the inmate, Carroll Ray Fender, was born in March of 1983.
Preliminary autopsy reports confirm Fender's death was caused by hanging. No external injuries were noted on his body during the autopsy.
Fender was alone in his jail cell when he was discovered hanging from a bed sheet.
Jail staff attempted resuscitation efforts prior to EMS arriving to transport Fender to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Toxicology reports are still pending and are part of the normal procedures in an autopsy, but the GBI doesn't know when the toxicology will be completed.
