LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Lee County will receive millions of dollars to buy repeated flooded areas and turn them into green spaces.
Lee County has been selected to receive the 2016 Hazard Mitigation Grant from FEMA.
Fifteen properties along Creekside and Kinchafoonee Creek Roads that have flooded many times qualified for acquisition and demolition.
The total project cost is $2.43 million.
Lee County originally issued an application with 19 properties that had been repetitive losses.
Lee County said the official award will be announced next week by GEMA and Homeland Security.
