16. What are common complaints after laparoscopic fundoplication?

Common temporary side effects of surgery are early satiety, flatulence and difficulty swallowing.

Temporary swallowing problems are common after the surgery and generally resolve within 3 months.  When swallowing problems are present prior to surgery, it improves more often than not.

An occasional difficulty in swallowing solids is present in 7% of patients at 3 months, 5% at 6 months, 2% at 12 months, and rare after 24 months following the operation.
