A new health care facility has opened in Valdosta, giving people a new option for weight care.
The Sterling Center of Bariatrics celebrated its grand opening on Thursday.
The center will cater to bariatric patient wellness checks, weight loss counseling, monthly support group meetings, and bariatric aftercare.
They will also be able to perform services like Orbera balloons, gastric sleeves and lap-bands.
Dr. Howard L. Melton said he is glad to be back in the area to meet the needs of the community.
"We're bringing this back to town because there's such a void in bariatric care for these patients," said Melton.
Melton saw his first patient just before 2 p.m. on Thursday and said that he is looking forward to seeing many more.
