AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

The City of Americus wants to celebrate educators just a few days after Sumter County Schools started class.

The city's monthly "First Friday" event Friday, August 4, is all about teachers.

Deals and events around the downtown area are planned to celebrate and show appreciation for those in charge of educating our kids.

Main Street Director Patrick Kay said organizers want to let teachers know, the community would not be the same without them.

"Being a teacher is a thankless job that means so much to this world," said Kay. "(It's) a way for us to kind of give back to them and let them know that we're there."

Teachers with their teacher ID will get a free ticket to see 'The Breakfast Club' at the Rylander Theater at 7 p.m. Friday.
