ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The solar eclipse is a little over two weeks away.

Are you prepared to watch it?

If you want to watch the solar eclipse, it is absolutely necessary you have the proper eye protection.

Here in South Georgia, we will not have a total eclipse.

That means you will need solar eclipse glasses to protect your eyes from harmful radiation.

Dr. Willis Hendley at My Eye Dr. said if you don't wear protection, you can experience permanent eye damage that could create blind spots.

Symptoms could show up as soon as 48 hours after exposure.

"They need solar eclipse glasses," he said. "They look much like the 3D glasses that people get from the movies.  They will be providing these at schools, colleges, libraries, astronomy groups who are interested in providing safety wear for people looking at the eclipse."

Dr. Hendley also suggested going to Edmund Scientific online to purchase glasses.

Remember, the solar eclipse glasses are not sunglasses and sunglasses are not a substitute.
