GRADY CO., GA (WALB) - A historic Grady County Elementary School is getting a new look.
Renovations are almost complete at Southside Elementary.
The school, which is almost 100 years old, now has 20 new classrooms and a new administration building.
The improvements should be ready by the first day of school on Friday.
School leaders say it will be an exciting surprise for students as they return.
"The original building was built in 1922 and has been renovated a couple times but was beyond repair we had a lot of termite damage. We are excited for our new building, it is brick and mortar," said Dr. Kermit Gilliard, superintendent.
Teachers have been working most of the week to move items into their new classrooms.
