DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County school officials are asking parents to be patient with school buses these next few days.

School Spokesman J. D. Sumner said every year, transportation is a challenge the first few days.

The school system's realignment this year hasn't helped.

Many parents also choose to pick up and drop off their child as a special treat for the first day.

Sumner said the transportation center has increased its staff to help resolve bus issues.

"If we have unexpected crowds pop up on a bus in the afternoon, it causes the whole system to lag behind," said Sumner.

Sumner said parents should expect delayed arrival times at home this week.

If you are having bus issues you can call the DCSS Transportation Department at (229) 431-1265 or talk to officials at your child's school.
