ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

South Georgia will soon be home to one of the country's largest Newk's Eatery locations.

Construction crews have begun renovating a space in the Shoppes at Westover on North Westover Boulevard in Albany to make room for the restaurant.

Co-owner Umang Patel said Wednesday that the 5,000 square foot building will be one of the largest franchise locations in the country.

The restaurant primarily serves fresh soups, sandwiches and salads.

He and his partners believe Newk's is a perfect fit for Albany.

"For us, Newk's was that opportunity to allow this community a foray into fresh ingredients, and modern cutting-edge menu items," said Patel.

Patel said they hope to open the Newk's Eatery by Thanksgiving.
