VPD investigates after woman shot in neck after school event

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

An investigation has begun after Valdosta police say one person was unintentionally grazed by a bullet.

It happened after an argument broke out between a group of people at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium in the 1400 block of Williams St. early Tuesday morning around 12:45.

According to police, a witness says she was walking home from a school event when she saw several people arguing, and then a fight broke out. She said she heard gunshots and starting running.

A few minutes later she felt something hit her neck and found a small wound. She was treated and released from the hospital. Her name has not been released.

No was else was injured, however, several shell casings were found and multiple vehicles were hit by bullets.

Police say according to witnesses, earlier in the evening, multiple people were arguing and off-duty police working at the high school event broke up the argument.
