DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - Family members of a Dougherty County veteran thanked volunteers for coming together to help the former Marine.
The Albany Gang, 517 Made New Ministries, Jimmy Britt Builders and other veterans got together to clean up the man's yard on Holly Drive.
The tornado on January 22 hit the home, whose owner is a veteran, 93, who served in World War II and the Vietnam War.
He has been in a nursing home since before the storm.
His family reached out to community volunteer Tom Gieryic asking if there was anything he could do.
Gieryic gathered volunteers to work through the rain Saturday cleaning up the man's yard, even though their typical work only includes bringing tree debris to the roadway.
"Because of his service, we felt that, just out of gratitude for what he did, we were going to make an exception and take care of this individual," said Gieryic.
During the tornado, a tree fell causing some roof damage at the house.
The volunteers planned to re-tarp that as well Saturday.
