WORTH CO., GA (WALB) -

A South Georgia resident is inspiring students one book at a time.

Alonzo Burns, a native of Camilla, was on tour promoting his book called "A Drug Dealer's Journey to Freedom."

In the book, he shares his experiences as a drug dealer and how he escaped the dangerous lifestyle.

Burns held a book signing for the Worth County High School basketball team Friday afternoon.

He said his mission is to empower the community while also giving people hope.

"It's really about hope, knowing that there's opportunity to better your life and there's opportunity to do something more positive. So hope is the message, so that's what I'm hoping others will glean from my story," explained Burns.

Burns will hold another book signing on Saturday at Monroe High School for its Community Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you want to get a copy of the book, you can buy it on Amazon and at Barnes & Noble.

It costs $12 for paperback and $6 for an e-copy.
