ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Eight people were displaced after an early morning fire damaged about 35 percent of their home, in the 1500 block of Elva Street.

Albany Firefighters responded to the scene around 4:35 a.m. Friday.

We spoke with a neighbor across the street who called 911 when he saw the fire.

He said he was impressed by how quickly the fire department arrived.

"I heard a popping sound, I thought it was fireworks going off," said David Clearman. "Then they got to really popping pretty good.  I looked out the window, and the house was on fire.  It wasn't five minutes, and they had plenty of firefighters.  And they brought the fire down real quick."

The occupants of the house were able to get out in time, and no one was injured.

Fire officials said nearby power lines fell and were burned as a result of the fire.

The cause is still undetermined at this time.
