DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County Comprehensive High School family joined together Thursday night in the 'We are One' Event.
The school's staff put together the celebration.
There were performances from the band and cheerleaders.
Students got to meet their teachers and learn about after school activities.
The administrators know they have a lot of new faces coming to the school next week.
Albany High School closed at the end of last year.
Hundreds of those students and administrators were relocated to Dougherty High School.
Thursday night's event is one of the many things administrators are doing to help unite the two populations of students and administrators.
Andre Simmons used to be the assistant principal at Albany High School. He's now one of the assistant principals at Dougherty High School and one of the organizers of the celebration.
"It's helping because a lot of the kids that came from Albany High School are in the band, are cheerleaders, play football. The kids are blending in so well," explained Simmons. "If I didn't know who they were I would think they are all from Dougherty Comprehensive High School all along."
Teachers and classrooms are set for the first day of school.
In Dougherty County, the first day of school will be on Tuesday.
