ALBANY, GA (WALB) - As kids head back to school J.C. Penny is working with the YMCA to help make sure they have some essentials.
On Thursday, dozens of students got free backpacks.
J.C. Penney employees said this is a chance for them to give back to the community they live and work in.
From August 1 through August 15, for every pack of kids socks or underwear sold, J.C. Penny will donate a backpack to the YMCA.
"We are trying to do our part and for those kids who can't necessarily get a backpack, we are giving some out today. So we are going to give all the kids a backpack, socks, and even sunscreen," said Support Department Supervisor Yolanda Wooden-Mitchell.
The first day of class for Dougherty County students is August the 1.
