ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany City leaders voted to make the multi-million dollar downtown microbrewery one step closer to being a reality.

Tuesday night city commissioners voted to approve the alcohol license to Pretoria Fields.

Now that it's approved, the company has to file for a state license with the Department of Revenue.

Albany licensing department staff say if there are no issues with tax returns then that process should take a week to 10 days.

City leaders say it's an exciting time for downtown, and the commissioners' vote pushes Albany closer to becoming more of a destination hub in South Georgia.

"I think everybody is excited about the new project especially excited because it's downtown and so this will definitely be that project that kind of draws more business downtown," said Albany Public Information Officer Monique Broughton Knight.

Once all licenses are approved and the building construction passes inspection, the anticipated opening date for Pretoria Fields is around Labor Day 2017.
