A passerby spotted a fire at a central Albany business Monday night.

Their quick call and the firefighters' fast response likely saved a great deal of damage to the business building and its equipment.

The fire at the Bob White Rents in the 700 block of West Broad Avenue was spotted by a passer by around 8:25 p.m.

"He was like, 'Is this building really on fire?'" Joloanda Givens, the wife of the man who called 911, said. "I think that he was skeptical at first, then he kept dialing 911 until he finally got somebody to come out. My first question was, 'Do you think anybody is inside the building?'"

Firefighters arrived in just four minutes and found flames and smoke erupting from the second door of a repair equipment room to the business.

Firefighters fought through the flames inside and extinguished the fire. No one was inside the business at the time.

At this time firefighters are wrapping up going through the building and roof, looking for hot spots that might still be smoldering.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, as firefighters investigate the blaze.

Because of the fire, Creative World Childcare Center will be closed due to smoke damage.

The daycare asks that you contact Keesha Jackson or Kari Stephens at Creative World to find out when services will resume.
