VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

More than 700 teachers in South Georgia now have new school supplies as they prepare to head back to classes in the next few weeks.

Second Harvest Food Bank in Valdosta hosted the Teacher's Harvest event Monday morning.

Teachers from all over Southwest Georgia lined up and filled their carts with items such as pencils, binders, and backpacks.

WALB spoke with some teachers from Grady County who said this event is a huge help for them and their students.

"We've been here about an hour and a half. We don't have a lot of money and funding so we try to help our students as much as we can," said Trent Brown, who is a Shiver School teacher in Grady County

Organizers said they served just over 1,000 teachers.
