ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Albany began collecting school supplies Sunday.
Church members are dropping off notebooks and pencils to fill backpacks for kids in need.
The drive lasts until Saturday, August 12 when the Back to School Explosion happens.
Pastor Kevin Moore said he's giving hope to those who need it.
"I think that a lot of people don't realize how much the community cares for them and how much we want them to succeed. And I think this is a way to show them that everybody out here isn't bad or looking for them to fail," said Moore.
The back to school explosion will be August 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bethel Housing Complex.
