TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Some Tift County kids got some help filling their backpacks for school on Friday.

Tifton's Community Resource Fair and School Supply Giveaway lasted from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Volunteers gave out free school supplies for kids of all ages.

Organizers said they expected at least 400 people would come to the fair.

There are even 31 vendors specializing in health and nutrition giving out pamphlets.

Volunteers handed out bags filled with school supplies depending on grade level.

Dave Hetzel is the the program chair for the County Commission of Children and Youth and said the giveaway is his favorite part.

"Watching the excitement of the kids when they get a chance to pick up something they like. Because a lot of them don't have much opportunity to do that," Hetzel explained.

They moved the fair indoors this year for the first time to beat the July heat.
