AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Police officers, firefighters and sheriff's deputies helped kids get ready to go back to school in Americus Friday.

Eastview Apartments hosted its annual Back-To-School celebration at 1 p.m.

Americus Police officers grilled out and firefighters set up a slip-n-slide.

Kids even got some school supplies, including some backpacks that the apartment complex received from different vendors.

"The motivation comes from home," said Debra Duncan, Eastview Apartments' Community Manager. "When they get to school, they need to have everything that they already need. We have to start here. We believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and that's part of our management motto."

Last year, around 100 children attend the event.
