CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Changes are coming to downtown Cordele.
On Thursday, the Industrial Development Authority started demolition on the building at Wall Street and 7th Street.
The building is over 100 years old.
Industrial Development Authority Executive Director Grant Buckley said his organization purchased the building about six months ago.
He said he hopes getting rid of the dilapidated bricks will keep the area safer and more appealing.
"Knowing that things are happening, and we're taking care of some old, neglected buildings that needed to be taken care of. We're making strides and movements to improve the appearance of our downtown," said Buckley. "So, things are happening."
Buckley said he isn't sure what the property will turn into now.
IDA officials are throwing around ideas such as a train-watching platform or a green space.
