THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - Thomas County commissioners are working to determine whether the county or city owns a road that could soon be renovated with SPLOST funding.
Nearly $5 million was set aside from the 2012 special purpose local option sales tax to improve South Pinetree Boulevard.
The improvements would stretch from Magnolia Street to West Jackson Street, adding a turn lane, sidewalk, curb and gutter repairs, and a roundabout.
Commissioners have now asked County Attorney Bruce Warren to work with the city attorney to possibly develop an intergovernmental agreement that could give the county the rights to Pinetree Blvd from Highway 319 to Magnolia Street.
"We have years of annexations, a bit here and a bit there. Portions of it are now deemed to be city property and portions are deemed county property," said Warren.
Based on a current map from the tax assessors office, commissioners said it appears that the county has the right of way to the property shown including the old Southwestern State Hospital property.
