ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

In just a few weeks, students will be back in the classrooms across southwest Georgia, and so will teachers.

Mission Change is making sure those teachers are well prepared to start the school year right.

The organization is hosting a teacher supply drive as their July monthly mission. The goal is to collect enough supplies to create nearly 200 baskets full of school supplies for teachers.

The baskets will be distributed to teachers at Lincoln Magnet Elementary, International Studies Elementary, and Morningside Elementary.

Mission Change is asking people to donate various items. A full list can be found on their website.

Mission Change CEO LaDonna Urick says the idea came after noticing how many supply drives there are for students.

"As we started thinking, we were like nobody's done anything for the teachers," Urick said, "and there's partners in excellence through different businesses and organizations that partner with different schools, but we just thought this would be something unique and it would be something fun for the teachers to be excited about."

Those interested in donating can drop off items at Greenbriar Church on Gillionville Road until Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

On Saturday, they will host a volunteer brunch where they will assemble and distribute the baskets to teachers. It is from 9 a.m. to noon at First United Methodist Gym on Jefferson and Flint.
