VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

On Monday, it was time to take a timeout from dieting and get to sampling.

Valdosta restaurants paired their favorite dishes and drinks for a Taste of Downtown.

It was part of the week long celebration of food, friends and fun.

The restaurants that participated were Covington's, 306 North, Birdie's Market, Steel Magnolias, Bleu Cafe, Bleu Pub, Book and Table, Jessie's Restaurant and possibly the bistro.

All participating restaurants were set up in one venue, the Patterson, at 101 Patterson street.

Menus were posted on Facebook here and there was a one time $20 fee for wristbands.

"People love this event. The taste is always a really fun event, but I think it's just a good time for people to get out and just explore downtown and explore what really good restaurants we have downtown, and sometimes just try something new," said Valdosta Main Street Director Ellen Hill.

Throughout the rest of the week, restaurants that are participating in the 'Try Something New!' event will have select menus for customers to purchase from through July 22.

The goal is to get people to come out and be social over good food and drinks.
