TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

High school students in Tift County will head back to class with some new hardware this year.

This year, the school system is introducing its “1:1 Chromebook Initiative” where each high school student is assigned a Chromebook to use in class and at home.

For the last several days, staff members have been working with over 2,000 Chromebooks. They’ve been preparing them for students.

But before the students can receive their newest school supply, they’re asked to attend a mandatory meeting with either a parent or guardian.

The informational meetings will take place on the following dates:

Monday, July 17th – 12th grade - 5:30 p.m. (A-L) & 7:00 p.m. (M-Z)

Tuesday, July 18th – 11th grade – 5:30 p.m. (A-L) & 7:00 p.m. (M-Z)

Wednesday, July 19th – 10th grade – 5:30 p.m. (A-L) & 7:00 p.m. (M-Z)

Thursday, July 20th – 9th grade – 5:30 p.m. (A-L) & 7:00 p.m. (M-Z)

The first three meetings will take place at Tift Co. High School’s Performing Arts Center. The 9th grade meeting will take place at the Northeast Campus Commons.

Students will not receive their Chromebooks until they pick up their schedules for the school year.

Those who can’t make it to their assigned meeting can visit the Board of Education Office at 207 North Ridge Avenue in Tifton.
