36 pro bowlers are in Albany for a Professional bowlers Association tournament this weekend, none more accomplished than Dick Allen.

The Columbia, South Carolina native is the favorite in the inaugural PBA Albany Strikers South Open.

Allen has won three times on the PBA national tour and is a 14-time PBA regional champion.

The qualifying round starts Saturday morning at Albany Strikers Bowling alley.

From the field of 36, they are going to cut to the top eight scorers who will battle in the finals Sunday morning.

"We have approximately 3,000 professional bowlers across the United States," said PBA South Tournament director Sam Zurich. "And we continuously try to have more events for them to be more successful and garnish more money for them."

The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday at Albany Strikers Bowling alley on West Broad Avenue.
