CALHOUN CO., GA (WALB) -

More arrests were made in Calhoun County after five people were caught trying to smuggle contraband into the state prison Thursday night.

Deputies said this has been an ongoing issue.

Chief Deputy David Moseley said that on Thursday night they got a call two women were walking near the perimeter of the fence surrounding the state prison.

Deputies discovered they dropped off three men who threw contraband over the prison fence.

Investigators discovered several items including three to four pounds of tobacco, cell phones, and batteries.

All five people were arrested. Mallory Adkins, Scottie Allen, Brent Deloach, Johnathan Kennedy and Emily Parker are charged with criminal attempt to introduce contraband into the state prison. Adkins and Parker are also charged with possession of Marijuana.

"It's almost a weekly occurrence that we catch someone trying to smuggle contraband into the Calhoun County State Prison," said Chief Deputy David Moseley.

The Chief Deputy says cell phones are what they see the most, but more recently they've seen people trying to smuggle in methamphetamine.
