ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Dougherty Planning Commission is planning to rezone a tract of land in the southeast part of the county.

The 150-plus acre plot of land south of Gibson Road and east of Gravel Hill Road is home to a mobile home park.

The Excel Pecan Company wants to repurpose the land to grow pecan trees.

Residents are worried about pesticides sprayed in the area.

Members of the commission said the rezoning project will only take place without those chemicals.

"The condition was there would be no spraying operations within 100 yards of the district," said Planning Manager Mary Teter.

The county commission will vote on the rezoning project August 3.
