DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

Coffee County sheriff’s detectives searched several days for the man responsible for an armed robbery that occurred on Independence Day night, at a convenience store.

They knew they were looking for a white man, who entered the Aden’s Minit Market on U.S. Hwy. 221 North, around 10:00 p.m., July 4 .

Now they have Jacob Allen Hopwood in custody. He was detained Wednesday and charged with armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, Thursday afternoon.

He kept his face covered and ran off from the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

K-9 Units from Ware State Prison, along with Georgia State Patrol officials were called to the scene, but authorities were unable to find Hopwood that night.

Hopwood is on probation for similar crimes in Florida

Anyone with information that could assist in the prosecution of Jacob Hopwood is asked to call the Coffee County Sheriff’s Office at (912) 384-4227 or the non-emergency 911 line at (912) 384-7675.
