THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) -

Thomas County commissioners are taking steps towards finalizing a public shooting range.

The county commission's Public Property Committee voted to bid out the removal of a Department of Transportation building.

The shooting range is set to be built on County Farm Road.

County Manager Mike Stephenson said construction on the range could begin after the removal of that building.

"So once we get the final approval from DOT to relocate the building then we'll forward that to the department of resources. They should give us the final clearance to work on the shooting range," said Stephenson.

Back in September, County commissioners approved an agreement with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

According to the agreement, The DNR will reimburse the county up to $800,000 for construction costs.
