ALBANY, GA (WALB) - LifeSpring Church members gathered in a new space Sunday, on Stuart Avenue, marking a new beginning for the church.
The move comes after 18 years of worship in East Albany.
"It's been hard up to this point, but it's exciting now to see the result and what God has done here," said lead pastor Mark Knight.
For the past five weeks, church volunteers worked tirelessly to renovate the sanctuary, nursery, and classrooms.
"This is an iconic building that's been part of Albany's history since the mid-50s," Knight said.
Now Knight wants to put meaning behind LifeSpring's new home.
"It's just an honor to bring new life to this building, this facility and create a worship atmosphere here, for a new contemporary church," Knight explained.
Praise team member Chelsea Smith-Thompson has attended LifeSpring for 16 years.
"I'm like super excited and nervous that we are able to expand our ministry to this side of Albany and to bring this ministry and service to the community," Smith-Thompson said.
In expanding the ministry she hopes her church home will grow.
"To bring God's word to the people of our community, that is our greatest calling and that's what we hope to accomplish with expanding and moving to this new location," Smith-Thompson explained.
An expansion of the church with hope to expand the church body.
"Today's service is an opportunity I feel God has given us to reach out to our community and become a community-based church," Knight said.
LifeSpring is offering one 10:30 morning service every Sunday right now.
