CALHOUN CO., GA (WALB) - Calhoun County Sheriff's deputies are cracking down on people who are trying to smuggle contraband into the Calhoun State Prison.
One man is behind bars after deputies found almost 22 grams of marijuana and two grams of crystal meth in his car, not far from the prison.
Chadwick Hiram Mancil was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of meth and obstruction of an officer.
Deputies found him Tuesday morning in Edison.
They believe he and another man tried to smuggle contraband into the state prison.
This isn't the first time it has happened, Sheriff's Deputy Mary Price said it's an ongoing issue.
"At this point, they are not actually throwing it over the fence," Price said. "They are stashing it in wooden areas and stashing it in different place behind the facility. I guess work details, is what we are suspecting, is picking it up and trying to get it back into the institution."
The sheriff's office is working with the department of corrections to make a second arrest.
