BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - The Georgia Department of Natural Resources rangers in Bainbridge have one goal every Fourth of July – to keep everyone safe on the water.
"We see an increase in boats especially on lake Seminole this time of year," said David Jones, DNR.
The DNR for the state of Georgia is divided up into seven regions. Southwest Georgia is region number five.
This Fourth of July weekend the DNR is reporting six BUI's in region five as of last night.
"We've had two on lake seminole, one on the chattahoochee river, two on lake George, and one on lake blackshear," said Jones.
Tuesday, as they are out on the water, rangers are hoping to keep that number low.
Most of the stops were for safety violations, no life jackets or tubing too close to a bridge.
A frequent violation was children under the age of 12 not wearing life vests. Something the DNR says is extremely important especially during holiday weekends.
"We want to make sure everyone is safe and goes home at the end of the night. With the influx of boats there is a high probability of boating accidents so we ask everyone to be safe," said Jones.
