UPDATE: Shot Albany man identified by APD

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

One person is hospitalized following an overnight shooting in Albany.

Officers were called to the 600 block of West Society Avenue around midnight.

A man was found on the ground behind an apartment at McIntosh Homes, suffering a from a gunshot wound.

APD identified the victim as Robert Clark.

According to police, Clark was on the back porch at 600 West Society Avenue when multiple suspects attacked him.  He ran from the suspect and they shot him in the leg.  

Witnesses tell WALB they thought the gunfire was fireworks being set off in the neighborhood.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Phoebe Putney Hospital. He is expected to survive.

Officers questioned witnesses at the scene, but said they don't have any suspects in custody. Police are investigating to see what led up to the shooting.

This shooting is the latest in a string of gun violence in Albany in the past week. Since last Tuesday, four people have been wounded in shootings and three people were found shot to death inside a home on East Alberson Drive.

So far no suspects have been arrested in any of the incidents.
