SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

A church went back hundreds of years on Sunday morning to celebrate those Americans who came before us.

The 11 o'clock service at Cross Roads Baptist Church in Sylvester featured members donning their Sunday best from the olden days.

Preacher Gene Huggins says church members wore overalls, bolo ties, and bonnets to remind them where God has brought them from.

Huggins says he's reminding his congregation the true meaning of July 4th.

"Well it means to me as well as our church, that God has really blessed us to be where we are today. We could be speaking German, we could be speaking Russian, we could be under the influence of a foreign country, but God has really blessed us," said Gene Huggins, the preacher.

About 20 people attended the service.
