ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Storms brought heavy flooding to the Albany area Thursday afternoon.

WALB received reports of flooding in these areas:

  • 700 block of Highland
  • 700 block of Oglethorpe
  • 800 block of West Broad
  • Nottingham and Whispering Pines

A tree also came down in the 1700 block of Stuart Avenue blocking traffic. It was cleared a short time later.

Albany Fire Department Deputy Chief Sebon Burns reminded people you should never drive through flooded streets. "If you can't see the road that's probably too much water, ok. In a half inch of water, you can hydroplane."

AFD also says when you have your windshield wipers on, drivers should also have their headlights turned on to avoid accidents in the rain.
